About Grace Church

Grace Church is a part of the Southern Baptist Convention. It began as a mission church in 1910. Gorham Street Baptist Church was founded and established by thirty members of the Memorial Baptist Church. The first church was located at the corner of Gorham Street and Ganson Street on Jackson's East Side and became incorporated in 1923.

In 1975 the church built a new facility at the present location on Dettman Road and shortened its name to Gorham Baptist Church. Since that time the church has greatly increased its membership and vastly expanded its facilities, undergoing four building projects to meet the needs of the people God has led to our church. We currently have a sanctuary with seating capacity for 1000, educational space with 45 classrooms, and a Family Life Center recreational building. In August 2001 the congregation voted to change the church's name to Grace Church, A Southern Baptist Church, in order to be all things to all people and thereby win a few. (1 Corinthians 9:22b)

As we look to the future, our vision is to continue to grow and to build, based on our obedience in fulfilling the Great Commission as found in Matthew 28:19-20.

Our success is totally dependent on the Lord. We believe God brings each person to us to both fulfill a need within our church and within that individual.
