Shelley Giles was born in Wayne, Michigan, the 4th of 5 children, all of whom during young adulthood lived within a 5-mile radius of each other and attended the same church. Shelley and her siblings would meet at the family homestead for Sunday dinner each week. Mom’s pot roast with roasted carrots is still one of Shelley’s favorite meals.
Shelley’s parents were instrumental in creating and teaching the Junior Church Department at First Baptist Church of Wayne. It was at age 6 during one of the Junior Church services that Shelley’s father led her to the Lord.
Shelley was raised, married and attended the same Church in Wayne, Michigan until her husband, Michael, retired from Ford Motor Company. Shelley likes to joke about the fact that she has “blue blood”. Her father, husband and two brother-in-law’s all worked at one time for Ford Motor Company, in Dearborn, Michigan, which is why they all lived within Wayne County, “Ford Country”.
Once Michael retired after 30 years with Ford Motor Company, there was no need to stay in the Wayne County area any longer. They were eager to move out of the city and into the country, away from all the congestion of city living. They started coming to Grace Church around 2004 and both Michael and Shelley became members in 2005.
Michael and Shelley have been married since 1982, have two grown sons, two wonderful daughter-in-laws, three granddaughters, one grandson, and our still at-home-baby, Rocky, the wonder dog.
Shelley has been serving as an Administrative Assistant since 2008 to both Pastor Donnie Anderson and Pastor Brandon Reynolds.
In addition, she and her husband have lead community groups and Shelley has lead a women’s Bible study while at Grace Church. They have recently began serving in the Young At Heart ministry at Grace, helping the 55+ stay active in ministry within our church body.
